Animal rights activists of Odessa held a rally in support of animals

ODESSA-KIEV. July 31. UNN. About 50 activists and ordinary Odessa citizens gathered on Dumskaya square to appeal to the President of Ukraine with the requirement to sign the adopted bill No. 5119-1 on strengthening of criminal responsibility for cruel treatment of animals. This is the correspondent of UNN.

Animal rights activists believe that the action taken in the bill is a step towards the development of a humane society.

As you know, the new wording of article 299 of the Criminal code of Ukraine provides that cruelty to animals committed intentionally and which led to the injury or death of the animal, as well as inciting animals to each other, with hooligan or mercenary motives, public calls to commit an act , which has signs of abuse, as well as distribution of materials with appeals to Commission of such actions – shall be punishable by arrest for a term up to six months, or restraint of liberty for a term up to three years. The same actions committed in the presence of a minor or the minor child shall be punishable by restriction of liberty for a term of three to five years or deprivation of liberty for a term of three to five years. The same actions committed repeatedly or by a group of persons provide for imprisonment up to 8 years.

“Also, the bill prohibits the creation and operation of mobile menageries, including mobile circuses with animals,” said the animal rights activist O. Tselinskaya.
