The mayor of Le Havre, the former Prime Minister of France Edouard Philippe also said on Twitter about the successful end of the operation, declaring “pride and gratitude” the forces of order. He addressed greetings and appreciation to the national police and special forces that “once again has done a wonderful job in the service of our fellow citizens”.
Earlier it was reported that armed with a gun 34-year-old man known to law enforcement agencies in their mental imbalance and a number of criminal acts, took six hostages in the office of one of banks of Le Havre.
The demands of the perpetrator, noted the media, was unconvincing. In particular, he demanded “the release of Palestinian children, unjustly held in detention in Israel” and that Palestinians under 40 years of age can be admitted to the temple mount.
Negotiators and special forces in a few hours tried to persuade the offender to release the hostages. The invader released them one by one. In the end, the negotiators managed to persuade the attacker to surrender.
Law enforcement officers believe that the hostage takers wanted to become famous.
