USA together with Ukraine began in the Black sea, off the coast of Odessa, the international naval exercises Sea Breeze 2020. A day earlier, on July 19, to participate in the Black sea arrived the US Navy destroyer USS Porter, equipped with Tomahawk cruise missiles and Aegis missile defense system.

The exercise was attended by eight countries. In addition to Ukraine and the United States are Bulgaria, Georgia, Spain, Turkey, Norway and Romania. As the commander of the naval forces of Armed forces of Ukraine, rear Admiral Alex Neiipp, “for the Ukrainian side this is one of the main instruments of accession to the naval forces of NATO”. Commander of the 6th fleet of the USA Vice-Admiral Eugene black said that the Black sea is critically important for stability in Europe. “When people ask why the nation is not the Black sea taking part, this is because the US, NATO, allies and nation-partners realize the importance of not only maintaining a stable and prosperous Black sea region, but also the importance to constrain aggression of the opponent,” said black.

As for the reaction to the exercises from this potential “enemy”, the Ministry of defence are closely watching what happens during Sea Breeze 2020. As reported in the National control centre defense of the Russian Federation black sea fleet monitors the actions of the US Navy destroyer that had entered the Black sea.

This is the fifth American warship that enters the Black sea from the beginning of 2020. The last ships that visited the Black sea this year, was a big landing ship USS Oak Hill (LSD 51) and the same destroyer USS Porter. During his stay in the Black sea, they participated in joint exercises with ships of the navies of Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey and the Coast guard of Georgia, during which were worked out the operation to conduct anti-submarine and air defence.

“The return of the destroyer USS Porter in the Black sea confirms the commitment of the 6th fleet and U.S. Navy to our allies and NATO partners,” – said the commander of 6th operational fleet of the USA Vice-Admiral Jean black. “Our participation in multinational exercises like Sea Breeze, is a real demonstration of the determination of the US in the collective defense of Europe,” he added.

According to the press service of the 6th fleet of the US Navy, is the fifth American warship that enters the Black sea in 2020. In June, the destroyer USS Porter, as well as landing ship USS Oak Holl took part in the exercises conducted by the United States, together with Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey and Georgia.
