Johnson proposed new EU conditions Brexit
Boris Johnson
KIEV. August 20. UNN. Prime Minister Boris Johnson wrote a letter to the President of the European Council Donald Tusk in which he indicated the need to modify the conditions of withdrawal from the EU (Brexit). About this UNN reports citing euronews.
In particular, he called “backstop” on the island of Ireland “is anti-democratic and contrary to the sovereignty of the United Kingdom as a state.”
“This is incompatible with the desire of great Britain to establish long-term relations with the EU,” said Johnson, noting that “backstop” can weaken the Belfast agreement that brought peace to Northern Ireland.
“Of course, our friends and partners on the other side of the channel is now showing reluctance to change its position – this is normal, but I’m sure they will. Nevertheless, we must prepare for the exit without a deal,” said Johnson.
The UK government announced the tightening of its position: immediately after Brexit, which is scheduled for October 31 for citizens of EU countries will come into force restrictions on free movement on the territory of the Kingdom. These changes will affect the rights of EU citizens, who reacted negatively to the input constraint. In social networks there are already statements that this will lead to mass discrimination of more than two million Europeans, the newspaper notes.
Previously, Johnson accused opponents of Brexit, in cooperation with the EU.
