Russian court in absentia took Klimenko under arrest

KIEV. August 20. UNN. Former Minister of revenues and duties of Ukraine Alexander Klimenko, in respect of which in April 2017 completed a special pre-trial investigation, the court in absentia chose a measure of restraint in form of detention. About it UNN reported with reference to the Department of public relations and mass media of the GPU.

The GPU noted that the Main military Prosecutor’s office of the GPU 21 April 2017 completed in absentia pre-trial investigation of criminal proceedings on suspicion of the former Chairman of the State tax service of Ukraine (Ministry of revenues and duties of Ukraine) Oleksandr Klymenko of having committed criminal offences under part 1 of article 255, part 4 of article 28 and part 5 of article 191, part 4 of article 28 of part 1 of article 366, part 4 of article 28 of part 2 of article 205 of the criminal code.

This person, as I said, suspected of involvement in a criminal organization committing heinous crimes against state property, causing serious consequences in the form of material damage to the state in especially large sizes, and minor crimes in the sphere of office activity.

The investigation established that the former Minister of revenues and duties of Ukraine in the period 2012-2013, as part of the Viktor Yanukovych a criminal organization, acting from mercenary motives, by implementing developed the criminal plan and the criminal scheme took possession of the means of the state budget of Ukraine for a total amount of 3.1 billion UAH, that is in especially large size by unlawful reimbursement from the State budget of Ukraine on VAT account 3 fictitious companies.

Currently the process of reviewing the defence of the suspect with the materials of criminal proceedings, said the Prosecutor’s office.

“The main military Prosecutor’s office has repeatedly submitted to the court the petition for election concerning it a preventive measure in form of detention and 19.08.2019 the investigative judge of the Pechersk district court of Kyiv satisfied the petition of the Prosecutor and the suspect elected a measure of restraint in form of detention”, – noted in GPU.

As pointed out by the Prosecutor’s office, “with the aim of delaying and disrupting the trial the suspect’s attorneys once again withdrew from the protection of the suspect and never appeared at the hearing to protect the interests of his client”.

“To respect the rights of the suspect and as required by code of criminal procedure, the court brought counsel from the centre for providing free secondary legal aid”, – said the GPU.

We will remind, in June, the court began meeting in the case of “tax areas” Klimenko.
