Russian lawyer from the group of defenders of the Ukrainian prisoners of war sailors Ilya Novikov believes that there are several ways of liberation.

About it reports “observer”.

“The first option was associated with the elections in Ukraine on 21 July and the name of Viktor Medvedchuk. However, until the 21st there a couple of days and even if the guys on Friday or Saturday release, it is unlikely something will affect”,- said Novikov.

Another variant is associated with Pro-Russian journalist Kirill Wyszynski, who is in jail on suspicion of treason. The Russian side insists on his release.

“On Friday, July 19, in Kiev will be held the court to extend the measure of restraint Wyszynski. And the court may make any compromise solution. In this case, and for the sailors can be a compromise. But direct exchange will not” – said the lawyer.

A third option is to appeal the decision of the Russian court about extension of a measure of restraint to the sailors.

“This meeting will be held in the Moscow city court, in itself it means nothing, we’ve been over this many times. But in terms of politics there also may be adopted a decision. For example, the case may terminate or send men on bail. And one that will allow them to go home quietly and forget all this,” – said Novikov.

Reference to UNIAN. 25 Nov 2018 Russia blocked the passage in the Kerch Strait tug “Yana Kapu” and boats “Berdyansk” and “Nikopol”, which carried out a planned transition from Odessa to Mariupol. The invaders captured 24 Ukrainian servicemen, three of them were wounded. The Ukrainians were accused of illegally crossing the border of the Russian Federation (part 3 article 322 of the Russian criminal code, the punishment of deprivation of liberty for a term up to six years).

On 25 may 2019, the international UN Tribunal for the law of the sea issued a decision on provisional measures in the case on the claim of Ukraine to Russia which ordered Russia to release the captured sailors and ships. According to the decision, Russia has until June 25 had to inform the court about the execution of the order for the release of the Ukrainian seamen and vessels.

Russia has refused to obey the order of the UN Tribunal. The Russian foreign Ministry said that the UN international Tribunal on law of the sea has no jurisdiction to consider the claims of Ukraine on the release of captured warships and sailors.

On 9 July Russian investigators have charged in the final version all 24 Ukrainian sailors prisoners of war.

On 17 July, the court in Moscow for three months, extended the period of detention of 24 Ukrainians.

On the same day in the comment UNIAN the coordinator of the group of lawyers of the prisoners of war sailors Nikolai Polozov, expressed the opinion that in the near future will be political agreement for their release.
