This was announced by the attorney Shchegolev Valentin Rybin. He said that today the Shevchenkovsky regional court of Kiev satisfied the petition of the prosecution and extended Shchegoleva a measure of restraint in the form of a round-the-clock house arrest for another 60 days – until September 15.
Also the lawyer added that he had asked the court to return Shchegoleva 3 days the passport of the citizen of Ukraine, to July 21 could vote in the early parliamentary elections, but the court dismissed his petition.
As UNIAN reported earlier, in February 2016, the General Prosecutor’s office sent to court indictment against Shchegolev for organizing the violent dispersal of the Maidan on February 18-19, 2014.
According to the GPU, Shchegolev, acting within the organized group, which included former high-ranking officials with the aim of ousting the protesters from Maidan Nezalezhnosti on February 18, 2014 adopted a decision on carrying out by SBU with the support of the bodies of internal Affairs anti-terrorist operation, which killed and injured people.
Shchegolev was elected a measure of restraint in form of detention that has been repeatedly extended.
June 26, 2019, the court changed the measure of restraint Shchegoleva-hour house arrest, based on the decision of the constitutional court, which was allowed to elect an alternative measure, other than detention of persons suspected or accused of grave and especially grave crimes.
Shchegolev is the only high-ranking officials since the presidency of Viktor Yanukovych, over which there is a court for prosecution of participants of the Maidan.
