The Chairman of the special Committee on intelligence of the house of representatives of the U.S. Congress Adam Schiff (Democrat of California) ordered to be ex-assistant to the President of the United States Donald trump on national security Michael Flynn at hearings of the Committee and a former adviser to the campaign headquarters of Rick trump gates to testify in the investigation of cases of Russian intervention in the American presidential election of 2016. This is stated in a statement released by the Committee Thursday statement.
“In the ongoing investigation against the attempts of Russia and other foreign entities to influence the political process in the United States during and after the 2016 election, including dealing with counter-intelligence activities, threats arising from relationships of Americans with the Russian government and/or other foreign entities, the ad hoc Committee on intelligence of the house of representatives has sent subpoenas to two Central figures of the report [of spectracolor Robert] Mueller,” reads the document, which is quoted by TASS.
Schiff ordered Flynn and gates to speak to the congressmen and to provide all documents related to the investigation of the Russian intervention. “Since you have refused to voluntarily comply with the Committee’s request for documents and testimony, the Committee is left with no choice but to claim these documents and your testimony with a subpoena,” said the Democrat. Schiff said that the Committee “continues to explore the deep concern around the counterintelligence activities expressed in the report of spectracolor Muller”.
In February 2017, the assistant to the President for national security Flynn was forced to resign due to the fact that not fully informed Vice President Michael Pence of the interview with Sergey Kislyak, who at that time was the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in the United States. Flynn charges were filed December 1, 2017. He is currently cooperating with the investigation and is awaiting a verdict in his case.
The U.S. Department of justice announced on April 18 the final report of Muller. Spectracolor claimed that Russia was trying to influence the presidential election campaign in the United States in 2016. While Muller noted that it found no evidence of collusion trump with the Russian leadership. Spectacular also stressed that cannot make a clear conclusion, fixing whether the head of state obstruction of justice.
Donald trump and his aides have repeatedly rejected suspicions of any improper contacts with officials of Russia during the election campaign. Moscow many times rejected allegations of attempts to influence the elections in the United States.
In the Senate, questioned the son of Donald trump
Meanwhile, the Senate Committee on intelligence held a closed meeting in which the eldest son of the President of the United States Donald trump Jr. answered questions regarding his participation in the contact the campaign headquarters of his father with the representatives of Russia. Senators were also interested in whether it was aware of such contacts and other persons from the environment of the current President, transmits radio “Freedom”.
The son of the current President occupied the headquarters of the trump one of the key positions: he was one of the senior advisors candidate Donald trump. In this capacity, he organized 9 June 2016 meeting with a Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya, which was attended by the chief of staff by Paul Manafort and son-in-law of the President and his Advisor Jared Kushner. They expected Veselnitskaya dirt on Hillary Clinton, and knew this information from a very high Russian spheres (from “the Royal Prosecutor,” wrote in an email to the facilitator-Briton Rob Golston). As confirmed by Russian pop singer Emin Agalarov, the request for the meeting came from his father, President and owner of the holding Crocus Group Aras Agalarov. However, the bait in the form of compromising Goldstone, according to Emin, invented by himself.
Dirt was a pathetic and unsubstantiated, although Russian President Vladimir Putin has twice publicly repeated it. When the fact of the meeting it turned out, trump Jr. attempted to get a short statement, saying that the conversation was about adoption of Russian children by Americans, “but this issue played no role in the campaign, and no continuation was not followed”. A day later came a lengthy statement, in the drafting of which, according to some information, participated tramp-father. Veselnitskaya supposedly had “information that could be useful in the campaign,” but “her statement was vague, uncertain and confused… it Soon became clear that she had no relevant information”.
The main question in this episode was how did trump, Sr. about meeting Veselnitskaya previously? If he knew, then, sanctioned it.
Both father and son deny this awareness. However, first, the journalists, and then spectracolor Mueller drew attention to a strange coincidence. June 7, two days before the meeting Veselnitskaya, trump told his supporters that in the coming days – “maybe on Monday next week”, that is, June 13 – it’s going to make a big speech “about all the dealings of the Clintons”. This speech did not take place.
In September 2017 Donald Jr. has already testified three committees of the Senate, a total of over 25 hours. These meetings were also closed, but later the transcripts were published. But in March this year, the Senate intelligence Committee began to invite him again. The President’s son refused to come voluntarily, and the Committee caused its agenda. The majority of the Committee, as well as throughout the upper house belongs to the Republicans, but on this issue, partisan differences have arisen.
The President then said that the Committee is behaving “dishonestly” in relation to his son. Former chief White house counsel Donald Boston refused to appear in the Congress agenda – he was banned by the President. But trump Jr. does not serve and has not served in the administration, and to keep him from testifying impossible.
Some details of the testimony of Donald Jr. reported with reference to anonymous sources The New York Times. He, in particular, said the Senate had not informed the father in advance about the upcoming meeting with Veselnitskaya and have not followed the negotiations on the tower project in Moscow.
