In Vilkovo of Odessa region, more than 150 fishing boats blocked part of the river Danube, demanding to increase the limit on herring catch. About it reports “Route E-95”.
According to the publication, this year a limit on the catch of herring is 450 tons. However, the entitlement has already been exhausted and 23 April the Odessa Department of the state Agency of fisheries has banned the catch of herring. The fishermen need to increase the limit of 100 tons.
The protesters said that if the government does not give permission to increase the limit, then the action on the floor of the river will become indefinite.
“So many fish, as of now, we haven’t seen for 20 years. Fishermen from Romania on your side caught herring easily. We also ban, in which we see the desire of officials to get bribes. Also talking about some kind of lobbying for the import of herring from Norway, which is the main rival of the Danube”, — said the fishermen.
As stated by Deputy head of Rosrybolovstvo in Odessa region Irina Gaidarenko, documents to increase the limit to 110 tons they have already sent to the Ministry of agrarian policy. However, the process slowed down the may holidays. According to the most optimistic forecasts, the authorization to fish, the fishermen will receive next week.
Earlier, the fishermen have carried out a similar protest.
We will remind, last year the fishing patrols seized 147 tons 374 kg of illegally caught fish. According to the State of fishery of Ukraine, the poachers have caused the state a loss of UAH 27.9 million in 2018.
