As noted, now through NPP “Tuzlovsky limans” is the intense migration of birds from the South. Among them, the ecologists recorded the presence of ferruginous pochard. A flock of these ducks, they are photographed in the estuary of the Alkali, which flows into the waters of the estuary Burnas, which are part of NPP “Tuzlovsky limans”.
“All of them, there rare ducks, with white as the enamel eyes, a tiny black dot of the pupil in the middle, there were 25 individuals. Such specific eyes characteristic of males; females have gray-brown eyes,” said Rusev.
According to him, the duck in the last decade rarely see not only ordinary people, but also expert watchers. The number of ferruginous pochard rapidly shrinking habitat is fragmented.
According to the ecologist, the main threat to the existence of this species of duck is the loss of wetlands. Now in several locations and its habitat is shrinking. In addition, careless ferruginous ducks often become the object of hunting – the extermination of birds leads to a reduction in strength.
“Ferruginous duck belongs to the category of globally threatened species included in the Red book of Ukraine, international Red book, included in Annex II of the Bonn Convention,” wrote Rusev.
