Published results of a 12-month study conducted at the Freiburg University of Germany and University hospital Bonn. Scientists wanted to understand the potential use of deep brain stimulation for the treatment of diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, depression. In the latter case, unexpectedly, managed to get amazing results!
As subjects were 16 patients with chronic severe depression, which were medicinal, psychiatric and electroconvulsive therapy, but to no avail. All they had stimulation of the medial forebrain bundle, is widely accepted as a key component in nanosysteme remuneration. Thin electrodes were implanted in living tissue for the delivery of weak currents directly to the area of the brain.
All the subjects experienced a decrease in symptoms of depression in response to treatment, and in 10 out of 16 patients performance was significantly decreased already in the first week. By the end of the study half of the subjects were recorded threshold levels of depression — in fact, they are healed from it. And scientists have good reason to believe that this result will remain for a long time — quite possibly for years to come. It can be called a sensation after years of torment people are healed within a few days.
In parallel, psychologists have opened a new area for research – the impact of electric current on the orbitofrontal cortex turned out to be a powerful tool to influence the mood of patients. And it is certainly not everything, we need to continue to find areas in the brain, a neat effect that can radically change human behavior. And rid it of its problems that many people “grow together” and is desperate to heal.
