Torrential rains and floods in Afghanistan has led to thousands of victims
KIEV. March 5. UNN. In Afghanistan, floods killed at least 32 people and thousands of others were forced to leave their homes. This message was made by the Norwegian Council for refugees, reports UNN.
Only in Kandahar province, floods damaged hundreds of homes and nearly 4 million people were left homeless. Due to the sharp decline temperature night displaced Afghans in need of tents and warm clothing.
“It was Friday, all day rain, we thought it would stop, but he was more and more. At 10 PM our house was full of water. The government men came to the area to help, and took us to the hotel for the night, but now we’re back, and our living condition is very bad,” said a worker from Kandahar city.
Humanitarian organizations worked around the clock from Friday 1 March, when it was first reported the flooding to assess the needs of the affected people.
The flooding affected thousands of people in the neighbouring provinces of Helmand, Farah and Herat.
Earlier UNN reported that as of 3 March by floods in Afghanistan has been damaged not less than 2 thousand houses, and 20 people died.
Also flash floods in Pakistan have claimed the lives of 26 people.
