In Kharkov racketeers extorting money from businessmen

KIEV. 14 Feb. UNN. In Kharkov detained a group of racketeers who specialized in extorting money from businessmen in Kharkiv region. This reports the press service of the SBU, reports UNN.

“Operatives of the intelligence service established that the gang were natives of one of the countries of the Caucasus region. The attackers had extensive contacts with representatives of the criminal circles of the neighboring countries, in particular in Russia. Staff of SBU documented the fact of extortion from a local lawyer four hundred thousand U.S. dollars as a percent for using borrowed funds in the amount of twenty thousand dollars. In the case of non-payment “tribute” racketeers threatened the man and his family with physical violence”, – stated in the message.

One of the criminals was detained. Now the issue of the message to the detainee about suspicion in Commission of crime and the election of a preventive measure. In the framework of criminal proceedings under part 2 of article 189 of the Criminal code of Ukraine, continue the urgent investigative actions to bring to justice the other participants of an organized group.

We will remind, in Odessa, the attackers, using physical violence and psychological pressure, “knocked out” non-existent debt from local residents.
