The explosion at the nine-storey residential building in Tbilisi in the evening of January 16, four people were killed, including four children. Seven people, including six children, were injured varying degrees of severity. Emergency happened on the streets of Avtandil in the area of Didi Digomi. According to preliminary information, the explosion supposedly occurred due to a leak of household gas on the sixth floor of the building, reports Georgia Online.

The house was damaged. Residents of the entrance, which was an emergency-evacuated. The injured were taken to hospitals. One of them is a four year old boy, is hospitalized in very serious condition, later died in the intensive care unit “Clinic Imedi”.

Six of the injured children are in the Iashvili clinic, their condition is not a cause for serious concern, said the Minister of health of Georgia Davit Sergeenko told reporters. Another victim, who received minor injuries, is in the clinic, ghudushauri, the Minister added.

The Ministry of internal Affairs of Georgia is considering all possible versions of what happened, said the first Deputy head of this Department Kakhaber Sabanadze reporters. Earlier, residents of the affected house told reporters that morning it felt the smell of gas, in connection with what residents called the representatives of the gas distribution company “KazTransGas-Tbilisi”, which found no leaks, reports “Interfax”. According to Georgian media, the company confirmed that specialists went on a call, however from other comments while abstain.

Vice-mayor of the capital of Georgia Irakli Bendeliani told that the house was seriously damaged in the explosion, and at the present time experts establish the possibility of further stay in it of people. “All the residents of the evacuated housing and the municipality will provide them all possible assistance, providing, if necessary, temporary housing in hotels”, – added the Deputy mayor.

In connection with the tragedy in Tbilisi on 17 January, the country declared a day of mourning. The corresponding decree was signed by Prime Minister of Georgia Mamuka Bakhtadze, reports Georgia Online. Thursday all administrative buildings on the territory of the country and foreign diplomatic missions of Georgia will be lowered national flags.
