The NATO Secretary General on Ukraine’s membership: we will evaluate the reforms

The issue of Ukraine’s membership in NATO will be considered in the future through the prism of the success of the reforms. This was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at a press conference in Brussels.

“We will continue to strengthen our partnership and work with Ukraine. Attention is now focused on the reforms, and based on the progress of these reforms will be evaluated, the question of membership,” Stoltenberg said.

“NATO and Ukraine – a strong partnership, and NATO has significant political and practical support, and the allies also supported on a bilateral basis,” he added.

At the same time, Stoltenberg did not answer why Ukraine is still not in the list of aspiring nations, i.e. States, declaring the desire to become a full-fledged membership in the Alliance.

As you know, are still in official statements of NATO in this list was called the three States: Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Georgia. Ukraine in 2017, said the Alliance official about the goal to get a membership, but until now, NATO did not sound an updated list of aspiring countries.
