Oil granules will make oil useless

For decades, the oil in commercial amounts was transported in huge pipelines. Because it is cheaper, safer and more convenient than to carry the “black gold” by rail tank cars. However, the situation may change if the technology of turning liquid oil into solid granules from the canadian engineers will have the right to life.

The method of transformation is still kept secret, known only that that uses high temperature and pressure. The end product is very similar to candy with filling – rigid asphalt outer layer and liquid core. Such pellets can be obtained from heavy oil and bitumen, relatively quickly and cheaply.

Oil granules have one enormous advantage, which overshadows everything else – they do not sink in the water and virtually destroyed themselves. This raw material can be scoop up by hand and put in pocket, reload and carry by any non-specialized vehicles. No need to build oil terminals, there will be no more catastrophic oil spills in the ocean, and for the liquidation of the accident will be enough to sweep the granules a large broom.

Yes, the transport of huge volumes of oil, even in the pellets still requires energy, but in the absence of special requirements, they are comparable to the organization of pumping raw materials through a pipeline. Installation for granulation of oil can be placed directly near the wells, in the future, making them mobile, that will radically change the entire logistics industry. Taking into account peculiarities of the development of complex Arctic region, this invention could be revolutionary.
