The United Nations should consider the idea of deploying in the Donbass joint mission of UN, EU and OSCE, where the UN carried out military/paramilitary function, the European Union police, and the OSCE have engaged in the preparation and conduct of elections. This was stated by Director of military programs Razumkov Center Nicholas Sungurovsky, reports UKRINFORM.

“Why would the UN within the framework of the struggle for peace and in the framework of the UN reform, go to, for example, offer a hybrid, or, for example, a joint mission of UN, EU and OSCE, where the UN peacekeepers would carry out military and paramilitary functions, the EU would carry out the police mission to restore order, including the return of refugees and restoration of their property rights, resumption of law enforcement, the judicial system,” said Sungurovskiy.

According to him, the OSCE mission would be to prepare elections.

“We are watching their conduct, to monitor this process. It would be interesting and useful for Ukraine and the whole international order,” he said.

The expert noted that before the debate on the peacekeeping mission “it would be desirable to develop a complete technology response or neutralization of the threat with which we are dealing with today and to the final result.”

“There would have involved military forces and economic issues, humanitarian, and administrative issues,” – said Sungurovskiy.

He recalled that examples of joint missions exist: “the overall mission of the UN and the African Union in the Central African Republic, which worked well”.

The US special envoy to Ukraine Kurt Volker believesthat Russia has two options in the Donbas: to freeze the conflict, despite the inevitable expenses, or to withdraw its forces and facilitate the introduction of peacekeepers.

The DNI and LC – terrorist organizations seized with the support of the Russian Federation of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine. Both organizations created, funded and maintained by Russia, where, among other things, the terrorists are getting fighters, trainers, and heavy equipment, weapons, ammunition, and fuel.
