The problems of the IDPs are not going anywhere

About 586 thousand citizens of Ukraine who live in the conflict zone since early last year do not receive pensions and social payments because they were not registered, introduced by the government.

It is reported by the UN Office for refugees (UNHCR), reports the UN news Center.

50 thousand of people with disability among internally displaced persons are particularly vulnerable. At the same time, they face additional challenges and often discrimination, noted in UNHCR.

“In the East, in the conflict zone, often violate the ceasefire. 800 thousand people living near the line of contact in Luhansk and Donetsk regions, in fear for his life”, – stated in the message.

The UN noted that just more than half a million internally displaced people in Ukraine continue to suffer deprivation. Many of the displaced are unable to find work and decent housing, and the conflict in the East continues for the fourth year.

At the same time the UN also notes restrictions on the movement of civilians, especially those who cross the line. Only in June through the checkpoints established along the line, it took more than a million people.

“People have to stand in long queues at checkpoints in the complete absence of any services. They have nowhere to take drinking water, no roof over your head in case of bad weather and no access to medical care”, – said the representative of Department Andrey Mahecic.

In addition, about 700 schools in the conflict zone is damaged. This year, 89 schools have been restored with the support of UNHCR. Destruction has affected housing. About 10 thousand houses urgently in need of repair. Moreover, 40 to 60 buildings near the contact line get damaged every week.
